Hot Foil & Printing Dies

Colourfoil brings years of experience to every die we produce and we take pride in our reputation for high quality engraving.

Brass Die

Colourfoil can manufacture dies for hot foil stamping. Dies are made to your individual specifications, from your artworks, in copper, magnesium, brass or silicone rubber.

Magnesium

Magnesium dies are primarily used for flat foil stamped images and flat single or multi-level embossed or debossed images. Magnesium is the softest material for metal dies and the least expensive of our range, ideal for shorter runs.

Brass

Besides providing conventional etching, Colourfoil have invested in the future with the installation of the latest, state of the art CNC engraving machinery.

Unlike conventionally etched dies, these dies are precision machined. The CNC machining process means that the relief depth is not constrained and so greater depth can be achieved in fine detail work to reduce occurrences of foil 'spreading' on the finished item. This also makes brass dies ideal for printing onto soft materials such as leather or cloth.

With our impressive machine capacity, we are able to manufacture flat tooling to a very high standard and can offer a same day turnaround when required.

Brass dies are used for many of the same applications as magnesium dies but is usually preferable for longer runs or when more durability is desired. Brass is an excellent heat conductor and retains heat longer than magnesium.

Brass dies can be used in place of copper for most hot stamping applications. The lack of chemical agents used during the manufacture proccess also makes these dies much more ecologically sound than their etched equivalents.

Copper

Copper dies are used for the same application as the magnesium dies but are more resilient, making them ideally suited to jobs with longer runs. They offer the best results for the reproduction of images over a larger print area. Copper is extremely durable with, with good etching characteristics.

Every die is hand finished by our skilled technicians.

We can accept artworks in various formats, as hard copy, acetate or electronically via email, see our artwork page for more details. Please contact our sales team to discuss your requirements and to find out how to transfer your artwork to us. An individual price will be given for each job based on the materials & complexity.
